National Scientific & Healthcare Achievement Awards

The highest scientific award from the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The Banting Medal is awarded annually to honor a highly meritorious career achievement in the field of diabetes research.

To recognize outstanding scientific achievement in diabetes research, taking into consideration independence of thought, originality, significance of discovery, and impact on his/her area of research.

Given in the memory of Dr. Albert Renold to recognize an individual who has a career distinguished by outstanding achievements in mentorship and/or creation of a robust environment for diabetes research.

This award recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions in patient-oriented clinical outcomes research having significant impact on diabetes prevention and treatment.   

To stimulate, acknowledge and reward outstanding educational efforts by a health professional in the field of diabetes education.

To recognize a physician for outstanding achievements in improving diabetes clinical practice. 

Given to honor outstanding service in the cause of diabetes that has been performed with an international perspective and with international impact, this award recognizes those whose efforts have increased the awareness of the burden of diabetes worldwide to improve the care and lives of those with diabetes. 

Given in memory of Kelly M. West, widely regarded as the “father of diabetes epidemiology”, to an individual who has made significant contributions to the field of diabetes epidemiology.
