All meeting attendees, members of the media, companies, institutions, organizations, universities, investment advisors, and all other individuals are required to abide by the embargo policy governing the American Diabetes Association's (ADA's) Scientific Sessions.
An embargo means that the scientific findings and results contained in any abstract or in any Late Breaking Trial accepted for presentation through the Scientific Sessions Program Planning Committee, are confidential and may not be announced, publicized, disclosed, or distributed before the applicable embargo date and time.
The acceptance of an abstract or Late Breaking Trial for presentation at the Scientific Sessions may be publicly disclosed; however, the scientific findings and results remain subject to embargo until the applicable embargo date and time.
This policy applies to all formats of release, including the Scientific Sessions online itinerary planner, meeting app, press materials, investor communications, websites, social media, news releases, and any other distribution method.
The purpose of the embargo policy is to protect the scientific integrity and novelty of the research presented at the ADA's Scientific Sessions. All presentations and submissions are considered preliminary until the time of presentation or otherwise authorized for public release by the ADA.
Violation of the embargo policy by release of information prior to its embargoed date and time will result in removal of the individual, as well as the affiliated company, institution, organization, or other entity, from the Scientific Sessions and will result in a two-year ban on participation in ADA Scientific Sessions activities.
Prior Publication and Presentation
If an abstract is also submitted as a manuscript for publication, authors are responsible for coordinating publication to align with the ADA's embargo policy.
Abstracts submitted to the ADA's Scientific Sessions may not have been previously presented at another major national or international scientific, biomedical, or medical meeting prior to their presentation at the ADA’s Scientific Sessions, unless expressly approved by the ADA. Likewise, abstracts accepted for presentation at the ADA’s Scientific Sessions may not be presented at another major scientific, biomedical, or medical conference before their ADA presentation unless expressly approved by the ADA.
Authors are responsible for promptly notifying the ADA of any publication or presentation conflicts. Failure to notify the ADA will result in withdrawal of the abstract and a two-year moratorium on abstract submissions for all authors involved.
The ADA will not adjust embargo times to accommodate journal publication schedules or presentation dates at another scientific meeting.
Late-Breaking Trial Symposia
Late-Breaking Trial symposium proposals are accepted into the Scientific Sessions program through review by the Scientific Sessions Program Planning Committee and are distinct from the abstract submission process.
Abstracts submitted to the Scientific Sessions are expected to contain sufficient results to permit scientific peer review and evaluation. Because Late Breaking Trial proposals may be considered before final study results are available, they are reviewed separately from the abstract submission process.
Acceptance of a Late Breaking Trial symposium by the Scientific Sessions Program Planning Committee serves as the basis for inclusion in the Scientific Sessions program, and the ADA's Scientific Sessions embargo policy applies.
Scientific findings and results associated with accepted Late-Breaking Trial symposia are embargoed from the time of acceptance into the Scientific Sessions program until the scheduled start of the symposium, unless otherwise authorized by the ADA.
Specific Embargo Dates and Times:
- Oral Presentations: Abstracts selected for oral presentation are embargoed from the time of submission until the scheduled start of their presentation at the ADA’s Scientific Sessions. The ADA reserves the right to adjust the embargo as needed.
- Poster Presentations (including Late Breaking Posters): Abstracts or clinical trial results selected for poster presentation are embargoed from the time of submission until Friday, June 18, 2027, at 6:30 PM ET.
- Symposia (Including Late-Breaking Trials): Scientific findings and results are embargoed until the scheduled start of the specific symposium.
- Published Only: Abstracts selected for Published Only are embargoed from the time of submission until Friday, June 18, 2027 at 10:30 AM ET.
Regular and Late Breaking Abstract Availability
The embargoed text of most of the abstracts will be made available in the mobile app for planning purposes on Friday, June 11, 2027.
Note: The abstract embargo still applies; however, abstracts are made available to attendees to assist in creating their itineraries for the meeting. *Not all abstracts will be available to view as some will follow the Press Program Abstract Availability timeline (see below).
ADA Scientific Press Program Abstract Availability
Certain abstracts and Late-Breaking Trial symposia may be selected for inclusion in the ADA's official Scientific Press Program. Content selected for the Press Program will not be published in the mobile app ahead of the published embargo time.
Exception to Embargo Policy for Publicly Traded Companies
Industry announcements required by the Security Exchange Commission must be approved by the ADA prior to release, and any level of information released without that ADA's approval will be considered a violation of the embargo policy.
