WIN ADA

The Women's Interprofessional Network of the American Diabetes Association (WIN ADA) is our members-only network for female clinicians, scientists, educators, and other health professionals in diabetes. The group’s goals are simple, yet profound:

  • Strengthen the voice and presence of women in diabetes research and clinical practice
  • Recognize the significant contributions of women to the diabetes field
  • Provide career development and networking opportunities to women of all career stages to help them achieve their full potential
  • Increase research efforts on women’s health and sex as a biological variable in diabetes

WIN ADA Advisory Group 

Our WIN ADA Advisory Group consists of expert clinicians, scientists, educators, public health practitioners, and other diabetes professionals. This group meets regularly to plan WIN ADA activities, vote on award nominations, and discuss strategies for advancing women's careers.

WIN ADA Awards

The WIN ADA Awards, including the Lois Jovanovic Transformative Woman in Diabetes Award and four Abstract Awards, recognize outstanding women who have made significant contributions to diabetes research, clinical care, public health, education, and related areas.

At this year's 85th Scientific Sessions, WIN ADA will recognize its members' achievements in the fields of basic science, clinical diabetes, sex as a biological variable, and behavioral medicine.

Criteria include:

  • Both poster-only abstracts and abstracts presented in oral sessions are eligible for these awards.
  • The abstract must have been selected to ADA's 85th Scientific Sessions.
  • The lead or senior abstract author must be a WIN ADA member.

WIN ADA Advisory Group members will review all abstracts submitted in each of the award categories below and determine one winner in each field.

  • Basic Science: Islet Biology, Immunology, Physiology, or Obesity
  • Behavioral Medicine, Nutrition, Exercise, and Education
  • Clinical Diabetes, Epidemiology, and Diabetes Complications
  • Sex as a Biological Variable

Winners will be recognized during the WIN ADA Networking Reception.

WIN ADA Professional Development Course

WIN ADA hosted its first professional development course in 202–2023.

The WIN ADA Professional Development Course will consist of 3 virtual sessions and 1 in-person session, each 2 hours in length from September 2024 through June 2025. This interactive, longitudinal program is a professional development opportunity for early to mid-career ADA members. Professional development topics will include: leadership skills, self-advocacy, networking, how to give a speech, work-life balance, imposter syndrome, how to write letters of support, and nominating women for awards. Additionally, a mentoring component will be available for participants.

The application for the next cohort of the course is closed. Applicants will receive notice about their application in early September.
