Lois Jovanovic Transformative Woman in Diabetes Award

Ann Albright, PhD, RDN, is the recipient of the 2023 Lois Jovanovic Transformative Woman in Diabetes Award. This award recognizes a woman who has made a significant impact in diabetes care, research, education, or public health. Dr. Albright will give remarks at the Women’s Interprofessional Network of the American Diabetes Association (WIN ADA) reception on Friday, June 23.

Dr. Albright is known for her work in the areas of exercise, nutrition, body composition, diabetes complications, diabetes surveillance, and public health approaches to diabetes prevention and management. As the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Diabetes Translation from 2007 to 2020, she led an expert team working to eliminate the preventable burden of diabetes by translating science into practice.

Prior to her post at CDC, Dr. Albright served as chief of the California Diabetes Program for the California Department of Health Services. During this time, Dr. Albright also held an academic appointment in the Institute for Health and Aging at the University of California, San Francisco, and served as a clinical dietitian in a local county clinic. From 2003 to 2004, Dr. Albright served as the senior health policy advisor in the Office of the United States Surgeon General and led the Secretary of Health’s Diabetes Detection Initiative.
