Sam Dagogo-Jack, MD, DSc,

Sam Dagogo-Jack, MD, DSc, is the A. C. Mullins-endowed professor and chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. He is also the director of the General Clinical Research Center at the University of Tennessee’s Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Dagogo-Jack’s current research focuses on the interaction of genetic and environmental factors in the pathobiology of prediabetes and diabetes. A principal investigator on multiple NIH-funded studies (DCCT/EDIC; DPP/DPPOS; Pathobiology and Reversibility of Prediabetes in a Biracial Cohort; Ceramides and Sphingolipids as Predictors of Incident Dysglycemia), Dr. Dagogo-Jack has authored nine books, 23 book chapters, and more than 500 scientific publications. A past president of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), Dr. Dagogo-Jack is a recipient of the Banting Medal for Service from the ADA, the Distinction in Endocrinology Award from the American College of Endocrinology, and the Discover Award from the University of Tennessee’s president. Dr. Dagogo-Jack graduated from the University of Ibadan Medical School in Nigeria, completed a medicine residency at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in the UK, and received an endocrinology fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis.
