Insulin resistance vs beta cell function

For years, researchers debated the relative importance of insulin resistance and beta cell function in the etiology of type 2 diabetes. The contributions of each of these components has been demonstrated using mathematical modeling: The re­sult is the disposition index (DI), which is a measure of the ability of the beta cells to compensate for insulin resistance.
