Difficulties in diagnosing depression

Diabetes distress and depression can be confusing for clinicians. One problem relates to definitions; another concerns how depression is measured in clinical care. The term “depression” is used both descriptively and diagnostically. Patients may say they “feel depressed,” but that is not a clinical diagnosis.
