ADA is recommending the use of a new term in diabetes management, estimated average
glucose, or eAG. Health care providers can now report A1C results to patients using
the same units (mg/dl or mmol/l) that patients see routinely in blood glucose measurements.
The tools and information below describe the ADAG Study that defined the relationship
between A1C and eAG and how eAG can be used to help improve the discussion of glucose
control with patients.
Order a free A1C/eAG conversion wheel and patient education materials. Support for
the eAG conversion wheel and patient education materials has been provided by an
educational grant from Bristol-Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca.

The relationship between A1C and eAG is described by the formula 28.7 X A1C
– 46.7 = eAG.
