The purpose of the American Diabetes Association Interest Group on Exercise is to provide a forum for Professional Section members to discuss the benefits, risks, and practical problems related to exercise in patients with diabetes and related disorders, to provide a mechanism for disseminating new information about the effects of exercise to both the medical and general communities, to establish standards for the development of safe and effective exercise programs, and to foster a greater research interest in the physiology and pathophysiology of exercise and its use in the treatment of diabetes and its complications.
