AZ, BMS Report Mixed Diabetes Drug Data

October - 26 - 2009

AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb report that new data from the second of 10 planned late-stage clinical trials for their experimental diabetes treatment, dapagliflozin, showed an increased rate of infections among patients taking the drug. Analysts also voiced concern that, although the drug did appear to reduce blood glucose levels, the data did not show any improvement in weight loss for patients taking dapagliflozin. The findings were reported at the International Diabetes Federation meeting in Montreal.
