70th Scientific Sessions

Continuing Education

Continuing Education credit is available for physicians, family physicians, doctors of osteopathy, international physicians, podiatrists, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, psychologists and dietitians. Certificates of Completion/Attendance will be provided to registered attendees upon completion of the online evaluation.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Physicians, scientists, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, pharmacists, podiatric physicians, psychologists and other health care professionals will benefit from the comprehensive program.


ACCREDITATION STATEMENTS
Physicians
The American Diabetes Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 

The American Diabetes Association designates this education activity for a maximum of 33 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Family Physicians
Application for CME credit will be filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

Doctors of Osteopathy
Category 2 credit will be awarded for formal educational programs that are ACCME-accredited or AAFP-approved.

International Physicians
The American Medical Association has determined that physicians not licensed in the US who participate in this CME activity are eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 credit™.

European Union of Medical Specialists
The European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) and the American Medical Association (AMA) signed an agreement of mutual recognition of CME credits between Europe and the USA whereby:
  • European physicians attending an event in the USA had their credits recognized in Europe.
  • American physicians attending an event in Europe had their credits recognized in the USA.
The EACCME remains the central body for accrediting events in Europe and the AMA in the USA. EACCME credits are recognized by the American Medical Association towards the Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA). The American Diabetes Association designates this educational activity for a maximum of 33 AMA PRA Category 1 for the American Diabetes Association’s 69th Scientific Sessions. Each medical specialist should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the educational activity . These credits can be converted by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) into European CME credits (ECMEC’s) and into National Credits by the European National Authorities.

Physician Assistants
AAPA accepts Category I credit from AOACCME, Prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA PRA Category 1 CME credit for the organizations accredited by ACCME. ADA is an accredited provider through the ACCME.

Nurses
The American Diabetes Association is approved as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the Virginia Nurses Association (VNA) which is accredited as an approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The American Diabetes Association is located at 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311. VNA Provider Number: 07-03-02. This educational Activity is approved by the Virginia Nurses Association(VNA) which is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation as an approver of Continuing Education in Nursing for a maximum of 33 VNA Contact Hours. The VNA is located at 7113 Three Chopt Road, Suite 204, Richmond, VA 23226.

California Board of Registered Nursing
The American Diabetes Association is also a provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider No. CEP-12196. This activity is approved for 33 contact hours.

Nurse Practitioners
Application for credit will be filed with the American Academy
of Nurse Practitioners. Determination of credit is pending. 
 
Pharmacists
The American Diabetes Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for  Pharmacy Education  (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This activity provides
33 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education credit. The ACPE UPN is
XXX-XXX-XX-XXX-XXX-X. Each pharmacist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she spent in the education activity.

Psychologists
The American Diabetes Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The American Diabetes Association maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This activity offers a maximum of 33 hours of continuing education credit. Each psychologist must attend in their entirety those sessions designated as offered for psychology credit and claim only those hours spent in the educational activity.
 

Dietitians
The American Diabetes Association is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 33 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program/material.


Podiatric Physicians
Application for credit will be filed with the Amercian Podiatric Medical Association. Determination of credit is pending.

Certified Diabetes Educators
To satisfy the requirement for renewal of certification by continuing education for the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE), continuing education activities must be diabetes related and approved by a provider on the NCBDE List of Approved Providers (www.ncbde.org). NCBDE does not approve continuing education. The American Diabetes Association is on the NCBDE List of Approved Providers

Successful Completion Statement
Participants provide name, address, and number of hours spent in the educational activity. Participants are expected to claim only those hours spent in the educational activities approved for continuing education credit. Certificates of Completion/Attendance are provided to registered attendees upon completion of the online evaluation and post-test.

Content Validation Statements
All recommendations involving clinical medicine are based on evidence accepted within the profession of medicine as adequate justification for their indications and contraindications in the care of patients.

All scientific research referred to or reported in support or justification of a patient care recommendation conforms to generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
