Results: SEVEN POINT BLOOD SUGAR PROFILE IMPROVES THE GLYCAEMIC CONTROL
Aim: In this study we aimed to explore the association between 7 point profile and attainment of blood glucose targets in patients with T2DM.
Methodology: After reviewing the demographic profile 23 T2Dm with stable HbA1C (7% - 8%) for the past 6 months and willing to buy a glucometer were enrolled in the study by purposive sampling method. 3 times measurement of 7 point (FBS, PPBS, Pre - Lunch, Post - Lunch, Pre - dinner and Post - Dinner and mid night 3 O clock) blood glucose for 2 consecutive days in a month was advised to all the 23 T2DM.The glycaemic control was estimated by HbA1C.
Results and Conclusion: Though HbA1C is accepted as a long term indicator of glycaemic control, it will not reveal the variation in blood glucose concentration during the 24 hours period and day to day. But 7 point SMBG helps to measure the magnitude and frequency of short term fluctuation in blood glucose. It helps reduce the therapeutic inertia
Reduction in HbA1C after 7 point SMBG
Mean HbA1C before 7 point SMBG profile
Mean HbA1C before 7 point SMBG profile
after 3 months after 6 months
After 9 months
7.9 7.3
6.8
Hence we propose that the treatment of hyperglycemia could be improved by 7 point SMBG.
